Ilana is a learning designer, content strategist, writer and media producer with a passion for developing educational experiences at the intersection of digital and physical spaces. Her work at Hoot Owl Media is informed by twenty years of developing experiences focused on translating science to story and bringing abstract concepts to life. She has worked as an education researcher, museum exhibit developer, MOOC course developer, executive science editor, and educational media consultant.
She holds a Master's in Environmental Science and Social Ecology from Yale University and a Bachelor's in History and French from Brandeis University. Ilana is fluent in Spanish and French.
Garrett Beazley
Chief Design Officer and Co-founder
Garrett Beazley brings his expertise in video production, podcasts, graphics, animation and branding to Hoot Owl Media. He has worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 2013, creating video and graphic content for massive open online courses and other media projects.
He has also participated in MIT research projects that involved developing filming practices, designing innovative video-based tools, and developing branding and graphics for educational games.
He holds a BFA in Film & Video from the Massachusetts College of Art.

Hoot Owl Media recently collaborated the MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program and their Starlogo Nova project to deliver "Modeling the Spread of a Virus", an interactive simulation model that can be used by teachers and parents to help youth understand the effects of even small actions on a community during a virus outbreak. Hoot Owl built the website, designed an educational activity, and produced the demonstration video below.Check it out at www.virusmodel.org
